Career in IT or Football: Vytautas' Journey of Choice

Am I going to have a career in football?

Vytautas hails from the small Lithuanian town of Kaišiadorys, where his childhood was filled with diverse activities. "Growing up, I joined every sports and non-sports club I could find, from basketball to chess. Eventually, I settled on football," he recalls. Football became a significant part of his life, leading him to memorable matches, including playing against FBK Kaunas, the Lithuanian football champions.

Beyond football, Vytautas enjoys reading books, watching movies, and anime. "My favorite books are The Lord of the Rings, Foundation, The Day of the Triffids, I, Robot, and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," he shares. When it comes to anime, titles like One Piece and Death Note top his list.

Vytautas's journey to Primend began on LinkedIn, and he has now been a part of the team for a year and a half. Reflecting on his early days at the company, he says, "My colleagues were very friendly and helped me settle into the new job."

As a Senior User Support Specialist, Vytautas finds his role both challenging and rewarding. "There are very few repetitive tasks, so the days don't drag on. Solving problems and searching for solutions can lead to faster improvement as you tackle different issues," he explains.

A Passion for Football

Football remains in Vytautas's life. While he currently plays for fun with friends and occasionaly in amateur tournaments, he enjoys the idea of organizing a football match at Primend. "It would be most interesting to create random teams. This approach would make it more engaging to participate in and observe a small tournament where the teams compete against each other," he suggests.

Travel and Cultural Interestsvytautas

Travel is another passion for Vytautas, with Prague holding a special place in his heart. "My favorite travel destination is Prague; I have already been there three times," he says. On his bucket list is Japan, a country he admires for its nature and culture. For anyone visiting Prague, he advises, "Don’t spend all your time in the city center. There are lots of parks, museums, and bars to visit outside the center, and they are less crowded."

Balancing Work and Personal Life

Vytautas maintains a balance between work and personal life through self-care activities. "I prioritize reading good books, watching movies and anime, and playing football with friends," he notes. Currently, he is engrossed in a science fiction book by Lithuanian writer Romualdas Drakštas titled "The Demon."

Looking Ahead

When we asked about his aspirations and interests, Vytautas expresses an interest in technology. "All technologies, how they are developing and at what pace, are very interesting, especially the technologies that humanity has achieved which were once considered science fiction," he remarks.

If given the chance to master a skill overnight, Vytautas would choose visual memory. Why? Well that would be a good conversation starter. Go ahead and ask him! While he wouldn't swap lives with anyone, he would love to meet and chat with Lionel Messi, Eiichiro Oda, and Bill Gates.

Vytautas's story highlights the diverse interests and passions that drive the Primend team. His dedication to both his professional role and personal interests exemplifies the spirit of continuous learning and enthusiasm that defines the company culture. As Vytautas continues to explore new horizons, both within and outside of Primend, his journey serves as an inspiration to all.
