GPT-5 in Copilot

Microsoft Copilot has received a major upgrade and now runs on OpenAI’s latest model, GPT-5.

What does this mean for users?

Copilot is now smarter and more accurate, with no extra setup or additional costs for users. The update is available across all Microsoft 365 apps.

What’s new with GPT-5?

  • Real-time Model Selection: Copilot decides whether to respond quickly or use deeper reasoning, depending on the complexity of your question.
  • Greater Capacity: Copilot can now analyse even larger documents and multi-hour meetings.
  • Enhanced Security: Copilot now explains more thoroughly if it can’t perform a task, and keeps sensitive information even safer.
  • More Personalised Experience: Copilot increasingly adapts to your work habits and preferences.

What other updates arrived this autumn?

Alongside the big GPT-5 news, Microsoft 365 Copilot received several important updates in September and October, making work smoother, scheduling easier, and collaboration smarter. Here are a few highlights:

Copilot Chat API

The Copilot Chat API lets users securely integrate Microsoft 365 Copilot into their AI solutions without data egress or compromising compliance. Instead of managing vector indexes and orchestration, users can now simply send prompts to the API for synthesized answers based on web and work data. These APIs enable multi-turn conversations using enterprise and web search grounding, enhancing custom agents with Copilot capabilities.

Copilot in PowerPoint

In October, two new features landed in PowerPoint’s Copilot, making it easier to prepare and share presentations. You can now draft speaker notes directly on the slide - no need to switch to a separate chat window. Notes can be added to individual slides or the whole presentation.
Another improvement is you can now translate slide content right within your presentation, making it much simpler to adapt materials for different languages.

Copilot in Outlook

A new Copilot feature is now available in Outlook for Windows and the web, supporting meeting invitation creation. It can automatically generate an agenda or introduction based on the meeting title, participants, and your input.
Copilot can also suggest agenda items based on previous meetings, chats, and emails. You can easily adjust or expand the agenda before sending the invite, using Copilot’s feedback options. This update makes planning meetings and writing descriptions more convenient, saving you time.

Surveys Agent

The Surveys Agent tool brings survey creation, response collection, and feedback interpretation into a single view. It’s ideal for gathering training feedback, measuring employee satisfaction, or running customer surveys.

So, several important updates have landed in just a couple of months, all ready to use in your daily work. But in our view, GPT-5 is the real game-changer - especially for creative and text-based tasks.
