Microsoft has begun rolling out Copilot Chat and intelligent agents to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. Starting mid-September, these updates bring the power of Copilot even closer to your everyday work. If you cannot see the update just yet – give a little more time, as will be available to all Microsoft 365 Copilot licence users.

Smarter, faster, right where you work

Copilot Chat isn’t new — it’s the same secure chat you may already use in Microsoft Edge. The big difference is that now you can access it directly inside the application you’re working in.

Because it’s content-aware, Copilot quickly understands what’s on your screen and tailors its answers to your open file. That means less copying and pasting, fewer file uploads, and no more switching between apps.

Referencing other files is simple: just type “/” to search and insert what you need. Copilot also suggests the most relevant files, like the ones you’ve used most recently, to keep your work flowing.

You can now upload multiple images directly in chat, collaborate visually, and enjoy a larger input box for writing longer prompts without endless scrolling. Plus, you’ll have quick access to powerful features like Pages, image generation, and intelligent agents. And with the GPT-5 rollout now underway, you’ll always have the latest AI at your fingertips.

Enterprise-grade intelligence and security

All of these updates come with the same enterprise-level protections you expect from Microsoft. Copilot Chat follows Microsoft 365’s established pinning and management practices, so IT teams can keep everything secure and consistent.

A Microsoft 365 Copilot license unlocks the full potential of Copilot Chat — reasoning not just over the file or email you have open, but across all your work data: documents, emails, meetings, chats, and more. Licensed users also gain access to AI-powered search, project Notebooks, design tools in Copilot Create, and advanced agents built in Copilot Studio.

New Researcher and Analyst agents bring advanced reasoning directly into your everyday apps, helping you brainstorm, analyze data, and move projects forward faster.

Tools for IT and compliance

For IT admins, the Copilot Control System (CCS) remains the hub for managing Microsoft 365 Copilot and agents across the organization. With tools like SharePoint Advanced Management and Microsoft Purview, CCS ensures robust compliance, governance, and risk mitigation.

Admins also benefit from Copilot Analytics, which tracks adoption trends, visualizes usage in the Copilot Dashboard, and measures the business impact of AI in real time.
